When To See a Therapist

One of the questions I get asked the most is what point you should see a therapist. The best measuring stick is when the issues you are facing are having a significantly negative impact on your ability to function in one or more areas of your life. In other words, if you are feeling depressed or anxious and it impacts your ability to get to work on time, take care of your kids the way you want, focus in class, or get along with your partner, a therapist could be a great asset to you.

There is still a taboo on receiving therapy, but going to a therapist is no different than going to your doctor when you have a cold. It doesn't mean you're broken or a failure! It means you've gotten stuck and need professional help overcoming a mental health issue, emotional health issue, trauma, or relationship difficulty. There is no shame in going to therapy. You deserve to be healthy and happy and a well-trained, licensed therapist can help you get there.
